Trim Size: 8 1/2" by 11" hardcover ISBN: 073-7 Summary:Originally published by Infantry Journal Press in 1947. The 6th Infantry Division served in the Pacific theater in New Guinea and the Philippines. The Division moved to Hawaii in July and August 1943 to assume defensive positions on Oahu, training meanwhile in jungle warfare. It moved to Milne Bay, New Guinea, 31 January 1944, and trained until early June 1944. The Division first saw combat in the Toem-Wakde area of Dutch New Guinea, engaging in active patrolling 14-18 June, after taking up positions 6-14 June. Moving west of Toem, it fought a bloody battle with the enemy at Lone Tree Hill, 21-30 June, and secured the Maffin Bay area by 12 July. After a brief rest, the Division made an assault landing at Sansapor, 30 July, on the Vogelkop Peninsula. The 6th secured the coast from Cape Waimak to the Mega River and garrisoned the area until December 1944. The Division landed at Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, on D-day, 9 January 1945, and pursued the Japanese into the Cabanatuan Hills, 17-21 January, capturing Munoz, 7 February. It then drove notrheast to Digalan Bay and Baler Bay, 13 February, isolating enemy forces in southern Luzon. The 1st Infantry Regiment operated on Bataan, 14-21 February, cutting the peninsula from Abucay to Bagac. The Division shifted to the Shimbu Line northeast of Manila, 24 February, took Mount Mataba, 17 April, Mount Pacawagan, 29 April, Bolog, 29 June, Lane's Ridge of Mount Santo Domingo, 10 July, and Kiangan, 12 July. The 6th remained in the Cagayan Valley and the Cordilleras Mountains until VJ-day, then moved to occupy Korea. The division occupied the southern half of the United States zone of occupation until inactivated. Nicknames: Red Star: formerly called the Sight Seein' Sixth. Shoulder patch: Six pointed red star.

My Life in the Foreign Legion by Prince Aage of Denmark. Battery Press reprint edition:1994 204 pages. 1 maps. Trim Size: 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" hardcover ISBN: 196-2 Summary:These exciting memoirs were written by Christian Alexander Robert Aage, Prince of Denmark, a great,great nephew of King Louis Phillipe of France ( who founded the Legion in 1831). After serving in the Danish Army, Aage joined the French Foreign Legion in 1923 and in Febuary of that year arrived in French Morocco where he joined the 1st Bn, 2nd For.Leg. Regt at Meknes with the rank of Captain. He campaigned in the Middle Atlas Region against the Berbers until May 1923 when he was assigned to the staff of Gen. Poeymirau as liason officer & saw exten. operations from May tp Sept 1923 in the region known as La Tacha de Taza. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre in July 1923. In May 1924 he was given command of the mounted infantry company of the 2nd R.E.I. & soon moved into action north of the border with Spanish Morocco to combat the raids of the Berber Riff leader Abd-el-Krim, who had raised the tribes against the Spanish. By Oct. 1924, Aage was appointed to the staff of Marshall Lyautey as Intelligence Officer. In April 1925, Abd-el-Krim invaded French Morocco with a large army, trained in part by German WW I veterans and Legion deserters. Aage participated in numerous hard fought actions in the mountains until he fell ill in Aug. 1925 & was evacuated to France, at which point the memoirs end. Aage continued to serve with the Legion in Morocco until his death in 1940. A key account for a study of the Legion by one of its most colorful officers. 1994 limited edition reprint of 1928 edition.

This volume is a detailed account of the only campaign that was planned, executed and successfully carried out solely by a Dominion force in WW I, that of the Union of South Africa. It is a very detailed operational account of the operations to capture the German held colony of German South-West Africa. There are chapters on the military situation in 1914, battles at Sandfontein and Swakopmund, engagements at Riet, Pforte and Jakalswater, Gibeon Station and Otavifontein plus orders of battle. Numerous situation maps & many orders of battle complete this account.

Originally published in 1907 this memoir covers George Mannington's service in the French Foreign Legion from 1890 to 1895. The author was in the 2nd Bn, 1st Regiment in Tonkin. He later served in the intelligence branch in Hanoi. Book is hard cover with 377 pages. It was reprinted by Battery Press in 2005. It is mint condition in publisher's plastic wrap.
